About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team and contribute to the development and optimization of hygienic mechanical products for the food industry.

NGI is a trusted development partner delivering well‑engineered hygienic solutions for both standard and custom applications. Our product portfolio ranges from basic mechanical components to advanced synchronous, oil‑free drum motors designed for precise control in demanding environments. Drum motors are a key product category within the scope of this role.

The R&D department works in close collaboration with stakeholders across the organization as well as with external partners. We take technical ownership, make informed decisions, and engage actively to clarify challenges and drive development forward. The team combines strong mechanical design expertise with a pragmatic, validation‑driven approach, delivering solutions with high attention to functionality, manufacturability, and the visual quality expected of premium products used in harsh environments.

In this role, you will own mechanical development activities from market‑driven requirements through concept development, design, analysis, testing, and industrialization. You are motivated by technical challenges and take pride in seeing your ideas mature into robust, real‑world products.

A key aspect of the role is evaluating alternative technical solutions through structured analysis and hands‑on testing, supported by clear documentation of results and recommendations. Many tasks are execution-focused, offering opportunities to apply creativity and curiosity to solve engineering challenges efficiently – whether by building internal test setups, prototyping solutions, or collaborating with external partners to identify and validate the optimal approach.

Working closely with Sales, Business Development, and external partners, you will translate customer needs into scalable mechanical solutions aligned with EU machinery, hygienic design, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and take responsibility for mechanical development projects from concept to production release
  • Translate market requirements into mechanical specifications and designs
  • Design and optimize hygienic components with focus on performance, cost, and manufacturability
  • Create detailed 2D production drawings including tolerances and required documentation
  • Perform mechanical analyses including static and dynamic load, lifetime, and thermal assessments
  • Plan, execute, and document verification activities, analyses, and test results
  • Support the transfer of designs to production in close cooperation with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing

Qualifications and Skills

  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or similar, with experience in mechanical analysis and stress/strain calculations
  • Proven ability to transform concepts and 3D CAD designs (SolidWorks or similar) into production ready solutions
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with a curious and solution‑oriented mindset
  • Structured working style with solid documentation discipline
  • Proficient in English
  • Knowledge of steel manufacturing processes (machining, welding, surface treatments)

Experience considered an advantage:

  • Food industry equipment
  • Conveyor systems for food or intralogistics
  • Rotating machinery, motors, seals, or bearings
  • 3D printing, rapid prototyping, and general workshop experience
  • Familiarity with EU machinery directives, hygienic design, and safety regulations

What do we offer?

  • A key technical role with opportunities to grow within a developing organization
  • Skilled colleagues in a flat organization with short decision paths
  • A broad scope of responsibility allowing you to apply a wide technical skillset
  • Involvement across the full product development lifecycle
  • A supportive learning and development environment that enables you to continuously apply and grow your creativity and innovation skills
