The Power of Synchronous Drum Motors

Together with NGI, Dueholm Solutions - part of the DHT Group - are conducting a comparative study on the energy-saving potential of synchronous drum motors versus conventional asynchronous gear motors, which are commonly used in conveyor systems.

The study is centered around key performance parameters such as operating time, torque, speed, and load distribution—factors that directly influence energy consumption and overall system efficiency. The findings so far are clear: the synchronous drum motor is emerging as a game-changer in terms of energy savings.

The results speak for themselves

The results of the analysis speak for themselves. Annual energy consumption with the asynchronous gear motor averages 742 kWh, while the synchronous drum motor requires just 474 kWh for the same tasks. This equates to a remarkable 36% reduction in energy use.

For companies relying on conveyors to keep their operations running, this level of energy efficiency can result in substantial cost savings. Lower energy bills are not only beneficial from a financial perspective but also reduce the overall carbon footprint of the production process.

Looking to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility?

The implications of these findings are significant for businesses looking to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility. By adopting synchronous drum motors, companies can enjoy:

  • Lower Operational Costs: With up to 36% energy savings, companies can significantly reduce their annual electricity expenses.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: Lower energy consumption translates into fewer carbon emissions, supporting corporate sustainability goals and compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Long-Term Efficiency: Synchronous motors are not only more energy-efficient but also more durable, leading to longer service life and less maintenance, which further reduces operating costs over time.

Paving the Way for a Greener Future

As industries continue to face growing pressure to adopt greener practices, innovations like the synchronous drum motor provide a practical path forward. The collaboration between NGI and Dueholm Solutions highlights how forward-thinking companies can make a positive impact—both on their bottom line and on the planet.

By embracing energy-efficient alternatives to conventional conveyor systems, production companies can take meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future. With these initial findings showing such promising results, it’s clear that the shift toward greener technology in industrial settings is not just possible—it’s essential.
